I hadn't ever thought of hiring a Doula, mainly because I didn't really know the purpose of them. Being a first time mom, it's hard to know what to expect.
Cher became MY person. She was the one I could text with all my silly questions, and she'd always have just the right answer. Id ask her about all the unspoken symptoms of pregnancy, and she always reassured me and gave me the best remedies for comfort. She was incredibly helpful to my partner too. Dad's aren't always given the right tools to help the pregnant lady but again, Cher had all the right answers.
When I went into Labor, I could have not been more grateful to have Cher. Contractions are no joke but, I swear her hands were magic. She coached my partner in soothing me the entire time, and without her I don't know how we would have made it through! We spent my labor laughing, joking, listening to music and seriously enjoying every moment. She came to the hospital ready to offer any bit of comfort for me that she could and made the room feel more cozy and relaxing.
The time came when I was getting ready to welcome my son into the world. Conveniently, that was also when my doctor was called to another delivery. Suddenly my room had many unfamiliar faces and voices and I immediately became overwhelmed. But luckily I had the encouraging voice of an angel on my side. I closed my eyes and could only hear my partner and Cher's voice, and they did such an amazing job guiding me, comforting me and encouraging me.
Giving birth is scary, unfamiliar and can take a turn at any point. Cher was there to ground me, advocate for me, and be my voice while I was busy having a baby.
I couldn't recommend her enough to any expecting moms and dads out there. My birth story wouldn't have been as great as it was without her. This is a very special time, and you deserve this very special person!
