I am so excited to share I had my dream VBAC with Valerie 10 days ago, and I still am pinching myself that we did it! I truly believe it would not have been possible without my doula, Valerie Kadash. I started my pregnancy thinking I didn't want a doula because I had a negative experience with my doula for my first childbirth, and this go around I had a great team of midwives.
However, the midwives encouraged me to interview some doulas and sure enough, from the first few minutes in speaking to Valerie I knew I had to have her on my birth team. Valerie is exceptionally intuitive. From your pregnancy through to postpartum offers tremendous advice and care without feeling overbearing. She times her outreach perfectly so you do not feel overwhelmed with information or reminders. It's so obvious that Valerie puts so much intention and care into each of her births, and I am so lucky to have found her during my search.
I was extremely needy via text and calls in the last few weeks leading up to delivery because I felt like one wrong misstep with my midwife appointments might lead me astray from my VBAC. Valerie was always available and offered her thoughts when I explicitly asked but otherwise let me talk my feelings out without making me feel like she was putting her own opinion to the forefront. She always trusted me to follow my intuition on things like cervical checks, incorrect growth scans, pressure to schedule a repeat C-section, weird comments from my MFM, and membrane sweeps.
The midwives and nurses were even commenting about Valerie's skill and presence during and after my labor into the postpartum unit - she made that big of an impression. During our postpartum visit, she even helped me with my son's tough latch in a way that a day prior an IBCLC had overlooked. I am filled with tremendous gratitude for her being a part of my birth team and will cherish the addition she brought to my labor and delivery forever.
