We are so lucky that Mary Ellen was available for overnight postpartum support when our second baby was born!
We knew it would be helpful to have the support of a postpartum doula with so much skill and experience, but Mary Ellen exceeded every expectation. Her wealth of experience was incredibly valuable as we navigated the unexpected in those first months. When I was facing a postpartum hospital readmission, she was right there with confidence and calm to help me navigate it, from brainstorming questions that would help with decision-making to figuring out a plan for baby care. When our newborn had trouble latching after a tongue tie release, she was right there with reassurance and expertise that came from supporting so many other families through this before. Similarly, as we navigated the less dramatic challenges that regularly come with newborn care and development, she offered strategies, insights, and a huge amount of support.
Mary Ellen helped with the mental load of postpartum recovery and newborn care in ways that were a huge relief as soon as she stepped in. In working with our other postpartum doula, she took the initiative to coordinate their schedules and communicate updates so that I had less to worry about. She reminded me to prioritize my own recovery during a time that was clouded by the sleep deprivation of frequent nursing and being on high alert at every cry. When I shared that I wanted to figure out a schedule for pumping and bottles so I could get a longer stretch of sleep, she helped figure out timing and made sure all supplies were washed and prepared throughout the night.
We highly recommend Mary Ellen's help, especially for insights, expertise, and more sleep during the newborn phase.
