We are deeply grateful to have had Shaina as our doula and would recommend her to others looking for informed, nonjudgmental, and unconditional support in their L&D experience. Out the gate Shaina talked about the idea of intuition backed by science which really resonated with us. She disucssed informed consent and making sure clients have all the information they need to support whatever decision they want to make and demonstrated her ability to support not just me, but my partner. It was important to me to labor unmedicated, have a vaginal delivery, and be fully informed and consenting to the care I received. I had an induction which was slow to start but when it did, things went from 0 to 60 immediately. It felt overwhelming and scary for both my partner and I. Shaina arrived quickly and brought calm confidence to the room. Having Shaina as our doula provided a consistent support I otherwise would not have received throughout my labor. Shaina’s support was nonjudgmental and I felt she understood my preferences and goals, while also really understanding how to guide me when I was at peak exhaustion and needed to pivot for a safe delivery after 5+ hours of pushing. When we hit a point where there was possibiltiy of complications for baby and I would potentially need intervention inclduing a c-section. I chose to get an epidural to rest before one last attempt at pushing, as well as be prepared in the event I needed further intervention. Shaina made me feel empowered in that decision and reminded me I was taking care of myself and baby in making it. In that last hour of pushing our daughter arrived via vaginal delivery, healthy and without needing further intervention or NICU. That incredible, delirious moment was also captured by Shaina in photos. Her support continued when we came home where she provided further guidance and support, including on breastfeeding and managing my emotional well-being postpartum.
