As a first-time mom hoping for an unmedicated birth, I wanted to feel informed and empowered while having someone experienced to guide my husband and me. Riannon was exactly what we needed. During our prenatal visits, she helped us create our birth plan, practice labor techniques, and prepare for different possibilities so we could make informed decisions when the time came.
When I went into early labor, she was incredibly attentive and came to our home to help us determine when it was time to go to the hospital and what we could do to progress.
My labor ultimately didn’t go exactly according to plan, and after many hours I decided to get an epidural. Riannon supported me without judgment and helped me understand my options so I could make the decisions that felt right for me. She also helped me with labor positions that brought our baby down to a lower station.
Throughout delivery, she helped us maintain our boundaries, encouraged us to ask questions, and made sure my husband and I had the support we needed. She was as hands-on or hands-off as we wanted, allowing us to stay in control of our experience.
We welcomed a beautiful 8 lb 4 oz baby boy and left the experience feeling confident, supported, and proud of how we navigated everything. Riannon also came for a postpartum visit to check in, answer questions, and help us with newborn care.
She gave us information without pressure, support without taking over, and reassurance when we needed it most. I couldn’t have asked for a better doula or experience!
