I had a wonderful experience working with Ari for the birth of my 2nd child. At first, I wasn't sure I'd hire a doula, and I'm so glad I decided to go ahead with it and that I ended up working with Ari. She was extremely knowledgable, supportive, & focused on my needs and preferences. In the 3rd trimester, I went through some rough moments, including a polyhydramnios scare and a breech presentation at 35 weeks. Ari was a calm and reassuring presence throughout. They offered specific movement exercises and physical adjustments that were very helpful to me especially in late pregnancy.
These problems all resolved, but then at 38 weeks I suddenly developed high bp & was induced for gestational hypertension. Ari was super helpful at this point, in the unfamiliar environment of induction I was more grateful than ever that I had them on my team. Again, Ari's calm presence was a hugely supportive force. She provided essential hands-on support and knew just the moments to be up close & when to fade out a bit and let me & my spouse have a private moment together.
During the pushing phase, there was an intense moment where the baby had some concerning stats and my midwives had to call the OB on the floor in, because they thought we might need to go to surgery. I am sure that OB had the best outcomes for my baby and me as her priority, but she had the absolute worst bedside manner and was literally yelling at me as I was pushing. I will be forever grateful to Ari for being right next to me in that moment, keeping me focused in the present moment and zoomed in on what I needed to do. As it happened, my baby's stats quickly improved, the OB slowly backed out of the room, and my baby was born soon after in an uncomplicated delivery.
Every birthing person has their ideal doula vibe and I have learned mine is calm, supportive, & down to earth. Ari is all three, & I would recommend her as a doula to anyone.
