After giving birth to my first baby, the cutest little boy of my dreams, I was overwhelmed and underprepared for all the challenges of early postpartum. The difficulty of those early weeks really caught me by surprise. I was gifted weekly calls with Michael for a month from a concerned family member who knew I was struggling. I live in central CA so virtual support is what I received from Michael.
Michael provided me with the encouragement , education and companionship I didn't even know I was lacking. She listened to me and asked questions that really allowed me to mentally decompress and find some of the clarity I needed to develope real solutions to the problems I had. My husband is in the military and I didn't prepare a support network for after giving birth which left me feeling very alone, under equipped, and completely sleep deprived. Michael assured me I wasn't crazy in my struggles and taught me about the immense biological changes I was experiencing. She also taught me the importance of seeking help from the people close to me. She would encourage me, and help me to initiate the conversations I needed to have in order to receive more practical help. I also learned from her how to have better, more well rounded, and consistent nutrition that helped my milk supply stay steady and my body heal.
I could ask Michael all the questions that would pop into my head the whole month I had appointments with her. I had questions regarding fitness, parenting tips, changing marriage dynamics, breastfeeding, menstruation, etc. She was able to be the friend I needed in this time and would always help me find ways to get help or brainstorm solutions.
I greatly benefited from Michael's support and have a new appreciation for the very demanding yet unbelievably sweet early days of postpartum.
