Mia was such a lifesaver and steadying force throughout my pregnancy, which, especially as a FTM, can feel like a confusing and frustrating ride. From the first day we met her for our intake call, she was kind, positive, transparent, and incredibly astute. She gave my husband and me genuinely great advice about what to look for in a doula and, importantly, never put any pressure on us to work with her. Instead, she gave us a wonderful overview of how she approaches her work, what our role would be in working with her, and helped demystify her role.
I especially appreciated how skilled she was at helping anxious people navigate pregnancy. I was particularly nervous about pursuing a natural birth, an effort that can sometimes feel a little isolating. Mia brought a wonderful combination of reassurance, realism, and confidence that helped me feel much more empowered.
She was incredibly educational throughout my pregnancy. She helped me understand what was happening in my body, why it was happening, and how I could work with my body rather than feel like I was simply along for the ride. She also has an amazing bag of tricks and so much experience to draw from when things get real on game day.
Mia was also a wonderful support to my husband. She gently helped clarify where and how he could fit into the team and gave him practical ways to support me during labor and delivery. He absolutely did, and having that support made the whole experience so much more special for both of us. My husband and I actually feel much closer as a result of having gone through such a huge experience feeling so well supported and like we were truly a team.
Finally, for any fellow nerds: Mia is a MASSIVE nerd, and she is so much fun. She’s curious, thoughtful, incredibly knowledgeable, and an absolute joy to work with.
