I genuinely don't know how I would have gotten through my son's labor and birth without Sheila. His birth ended up being much more difficult than I anticipated. Both of my epidurals failed, labor was incredibly intense, and his delivery ultimately involved a shoulder dystocia. Through all of it, Sheila was an absolute godsend.
From the beginning, she was prepared for what I needed before I even knew I needed it. She had a birthing comb ready to go, and when the epidurals failed, that little comb ended up being the one thing that got me through each wave of contractions. She was a calm, steady presence beside me, helping me cope physically, encouraging me when I was exhausted, and somehow making an incredibly difficult experience feel manageable one contraction at a time.
She was also such a wonderful support for my husband. Having Sheila there meant he didn't have to somehow know exactly what to do or say while also watching someone he loves go through an intense labor. He appreciated having her experience and calm presence to lean on, too, and we both felt like she was truly there for us as a family.
There are parts of my son's birth that were incredibly hard, but when I look back, I also remember how supported and cared for I felt. Sheila is a huge part of that. She helped me feel like I could keep going when I truly didn't know if I could.
I will always be grateful that she was there with us. I cannot recommend Sheila highly enough, and if we ever have another baby, there is absolutely no question that I would want her by my side again.
