As a first time dad, I had very little experience with babies or childbirth, and Jennifer was an incredible support to me throughout the entire process. She helped me stay calm in situations that could have easily felt overwhelming and always made me feel comfortable asking questions. She never made me feel like there was such a thing as a bad question, which meant a lot to me. Jennifer is also just genuinely pleasant to be around. She has so much experience and so many stories from past births that helped us understand what was happening and what we might expect. When she came to our home before the birth to walk us through stretches, exercises, and ways I could support my wife, it was incredibly helpful. One thing I really appreciated was how much Jennifer wanted me to be involved. She never made me feel like she was stepping into my role as a husband. Instead, she helped me understand how important my role was and showed me how to better support my wife during pregnancy, labor, and especially after the birth. She also helped me recognize things to pay attention to during labor and recovery so I could be a better advocate for my wife.
Our birth experience ended up being very different from what we had planned, but Jennifer was a huge reason it remained a positive experience. She helped keep both of us calm, informed, and engaged throughout an extremely long labor. I truly believe her experience and persistence helped our daughter avoid being delivered by C section. I am incredibly grateful we had Jennifer there. She made me feel more confident as a husband and a new father, and I cannot imagine going through the birth of our first child without her.
