Jeni's emphasis on evidence really called to me. We did her birth class and felt informed and empowered about birth and taking care of our baby. When baby was looking big, Jeni helped us navigate conversations with the midwives when it felt like they were pushing interventions preemptively and helped us have informed conversations and helped me cultivate a flexible mindset when it came to what might be necessary to help baby.
In class Jeni covered the evidence based reasons for the medical interventions. Jeni was with me every step of the way during this pregnancy and my incredibly long labor that just didn’t progress. I was the poster child for the medically indicated reason to get several interventions, with Jeni’s preparation and emphasis on evidence, I felt comfortable that when it appeared to be time for an intervention, I was choosing the best thing for us. When I was reaching my limit and the contractions wouldn’t let me rest, Jeni came right on time and gave me the strength to keep trying.
I can rest assured that with all the help from Jeni, if a natural birth was meant to be this time, it would have happened. I ended up needing a C section, but he’s healthy and here and wonderful. My birth was scary but still magical and mine and I got to try my hand at a natural birth much longer than I would have without Jeni’s support.
The work Jeni had me do in preparation for childbirth put me in a great spot for recovering from surgery physically. So did the days of rest after.
I didn’t get the natural birth of my dreams this time. Jeni’s support helped me feel like I still had a hand in writing the story even when so many of the variables were exceptional and out of our control. She also helped me feel grounded in an incredibly vulnerable and emotional situation. I will hire her again in a heartbeat.
