There are so many great things to say about Leila, I hardly know where to start. From our first conversation with her - before she was even officially our doula - Leila made my husband and I feel so at ease and not only answered all of our questions, but also asked us important questions about our hopes and non-negotiables for our birth experience to ensure we were all a good fit for each other. We met with Leila twice in my third trimester; once to talk through our birth plan and once to talk through postpartum planning. Both conversations were so thorough and clearly rooted in both Leila's experience as a doula and her deep care for us and our baby. She helped me identify preferences for my labor and birth experience that it never would have occurred to me to think about on my own, which made me feel much more confident heading into an experience that, frankly, terrified me. She helped us figure out our priorities for birth and postpartum, and gave us an incredibly helpful decision making tool (shoutout EBRAINS) that allowed us to feel confident in navigating the unpredictability of labor and birth. When I went into labor in the middle of the night, Leila got on the phone with me right away to check in about how I was feeling and to remind me of all the comfort measures we had talked about ahead of time to help me labor at home for as long as possible. She joined us at the house to help my husband support me in person until I decided it was time to go to the hospital, and at the hospital she was an incredible advocate for me with the entire medical team. My birth experience had several unexpected complications (as many do), but having Leila's calm, confident presence at my side helped me remain calm in what otherwise would have been a very stressful situation. I could gush about her forever, but I truly am just so grateful to know her and to have her on our team.
