I am so glad and feel so blessed to have had Katie as my doula for my second child's birth. I carry a lot of trauma from my first child's birth, so much so that i started seeing a therapist pretty early on this last pregnancy. I found a lot to be triggering, despite it being 6 years after that inital experience. Katie came in to my journey close to my 3rd trimester and immediately I felt a sisterhood and confidence in her that I didn't realize would have such a positive impact on my experience this time around. Katie is very down-to-earth. She is a fantastic listener and each time we would meet, she had pondered and researched about how best to help me through my struggles and came with lots of suggestions and things to practice or try with my husband so he could also be more prepared as a birth partner this time. She keeps up to date with current studies and facts and was well informed about our chosen hospital and insurance plan. We worked a lot on being mindful and present and she provided lots of techniques for breathing and grounding myself so I could stay in control and not panic. We talked real talk about expectations and possibilities. Katie also had good questions for me to ask my doctor. I thought I had prepared myself so well for my first birth experience, including taking local classes, but looking back, I wish I'd have had my doula Katie there. Katie is a mom herself and has had several different experiences with each of her childrens births; I really felt heard and knew that she could honestly relate. During birth, it was invaluable to have her present. She intuitively knew when to step back or step up, she confidently moved around the room and the attending nurses, cheering me on and helping me re-center when I started losing my cool. In my opinion, everyone should have a doula. And anyone who is able to have a doula should have Katie.
