Shantel is an *amazing* doula. From day one, she knew how to best support us as we prepared for our baby. She is deeply knowledgeable and applies that knowledge to each couple's specific needs. By utilizing a mix of virtual and in-person visits, Shantel made recommendations at our home while helping us organize things we could no longer manage late in pregnancy. She really cares about her clients and offered more support than we realized a doula could provide.
When labor started, Shantel met us at the hospital and didn't leave our side. Having Shantel there meant we could manage parking, food, and necessary rest without either of us worrying about anyone being left alone. I couldn't be two places at once and Shantel filled that gap during hours when things were intense and constant presence was needed.
It isn't just about extra hands, either. Even with family, none of them could offer what Shantel did, because she knew what to anticipate: reading where we were in the process, sensing what was needed before we asked, and understanding what the medical team would likely do next. She translated all of that in real time, in a way loved ones aren't trained to do.
The nursing staff communicated with Shantel, including her in decisions about helpful positions during labor. Knowing the physical limitations involved, she advocated for us when we couldn't speak up. She also hand-delivered a copy of our birth plan so staff and midwife could review it with us directly.
Working with Shantel was one of the best decisions we made for one of the most important experiences of our lives. Her involvement allowed both of us to be present and human without either of us feeling stretched thin. We're grateful, and excited to keep working with her for ongoing support.
