We had such a wonderful experience working with Jaya and Kiona for our birth and postpartum journey!
During our prenatal meeting, they immediately put us at ease, and we could imagine having either of them by our side in the hospital when we went. We aligned with their philosophy that there is no one "right" way, and that informed decision making is key. When the time came, Jaya was on-call for us, and she drove to the hospital at 1 am. She offered such a calming, joyful presence during my labor and delivery. She took offered and gave support through hip squeezes so my husband could have a break, and brought a whimsical calm vibe complete with the fairy lights and birth cave atmosphere we had talked about beforehand. When it came time to push, Jaya was the catalyst for positivity in the room, cheering me on and making the whole process feel like a celebration (it was!). Jaya also worked super well with the nurses and doctors, asking follow up questions relevant to decision making and explaining things that may not have been fully explained.
It was during the postpartum visits that we got to know both Jaya and Kiona better as people and were able to soak up some of their wisdom around newborn care and parenting in general. Both Jaya and Kiona are so flexible and accommodating during these visits. It was hard to choose between asking them questions and soaking up their knowledge, and taking the personal time to walk the dog, shower, eat -all things that they encouraged us to do while they soothed our baby or rocked him to sleep.
Lastly, they are deeply committed to birthing and healthcare justice for all. It felt so comforting to know that we were in such good hands and connected to such good people. Thank you, Jaya and Kiona!
