Testimonial for Amanda Nafey PCD (DONA)
Almost a year ago, I had the privilege of having Amanda as my postpartum doula to help with my twins. Truthfully, my first weeks (really, months) home from the hospital are a pretty big blur. I can’t summon a memory of something specific, but here is what I do remember: The days when she came were my favorite days of the week; I was sad every time she left for the day, and I was especially sad on her last day; She was an incredible wealth of knowledge to me, and she was able to connect me to so many other providers and valuable resources (some that the babies and I still use today); She made sure I had time to take a shower AND wash my hair so I could feel a little more human again. When I was with a friend months later, that friend asked me how I knew how to do something, and I said, “Amanda taught me!.” Later that visit, she asked why I did something with the babies, and my sentence began with, “Amanda said…”, to which my friend immediately responded that she wishes someone listened to her as much as I listen to Amanda. I think that shows the influence that Amanda has had on me and my girls, not just in the beginning, but still now, nearly a year later – That even if I can’t remember details, I remember and feel her impact. She is woven into the fabric of this postpartum version of myself, and I get to carry that with me forever. Her help is not measured in over the top gestures, but in the day-to-day help with going to appointments, packing the diaper bag, making a snack, giving the babies a bath, sharing pearls of wisdom and nuggets of advice, and sharing all of her resources/connections. Even if I can't pinpoint specific examples of what she did when put on the spot, I know I'm who I am today at least in part because of what she was able to teach and do for me and my daughters.
