After an arduous, less-than-straightforward birth experience with my first daughter, I decided to look into hiring a doula for my second. At the recommendation of my sister in law, I found Esme. I am incredibly grateful to have had her support both during pregnancy and childbirth. She guided me (and my husband!) through educational and physical preparation, teaching both the physiological processes of birth, at-home exercises to best prepare my body, and coping techniques that my husband could help to perform. As a Catholic, having a doula who shared my Christian faith was an invaluable comfort. She understands and respects how God made women and our bodies to birth, gracefully approaching each unique circumstance with peace and fortitude. Her presence through my labor was immensely loving and peaceful. Her calm encouragements filled me with so much confidence. She was also especially helpful in the weeks leading up to labor. My second daughter took her time, not coming into this world until 41+3, so I was becoming impatient and feeling frustrated with prodromal labor that would start and stop. Esme was responsive to every text or call during these final weeks of waiting, offering her encouragement and support even then. I cannot recommend Esme enough. God willing, I would be blessed to have her attend any future births. If you're on the fence, hire her!
