If you’re a first-time mom wondering whether you need a doula, I can honestly say that having Sara by our side made a tremendous difference in our birth experience. We didn’t fully understand a doula's role beyond being a birth support person. After our experience, I would recommend having a doula to any first-time mom 100%—and specifically, Sara. Sara connected with me and felt like a long-time friend. She came to our house to get to know us better, familiarize herself with our setup, and fully understand our wishes for the big day. Toward the end, she checked in every two weeks, and then every day as we got closer to my due date. We always received prompt and thorough responses to our questions. With her years of experience, we trusted her guidance completely. We immediately felt at ease with her by our side. She helped me with different positions and reassured us that everything was okay. She coordinated everything with the hospital so we could focus on getting into the car and driving there safely. Being familiar with the hospital staff helped us get a room upgrade. She set the room mood in a calming way with twinkle lights and tea lights. She was also our guiding light when we had to make decisions about the next steps in our birth plan. She encouraged me to stick with my wish to ask for a mirror, which ultimately gave me the motivation to keep going and deliver vaginally after a very long labor. Without Sara, we would have gone to the hospital too early or possibly ended up with an unnecessary C-section. She made an incredibly difficult day feel much less stressful so that we could focus on each other. She made me feel calm and confident and continuously brought me back to a positive, “Yes, I can” mindset. She reminded me that I could do this when I was ready to give up. Postbirth visits ensured we were doing okay physically, emotionally, and mentally. Sara was an incredible choice for us.
