For many years we'd planned on not having children, in part due to fears around pregnancy + delivery. When we finally decided we wanted to take the plunge we knew we'd want someone to lean on. Laurie came as an emphatic recommendation from a friend and we knew 10 minutes into our first meeting that we wanted her on our team.
Laurie was so reassuring and confidence-inspiring throughout the process. In the two preparatory sessions she got a sense of what we liked/disliked, our strengths and weaknesses, our fears, and how we worked as a couple. She also explained how she preferred to work, what the process would look like, and how she'd support us. The amorphous fear-blob of delivery turned into something we could visualize and prepare for. She helped us take the mindset of accepting unknowns while setting ourselves up to make informed decisions and feel empowered through the experience.
Our pregnancy and delivery were relatively uncomplicated but began with A's water breaking before contractions requiring some time-sensitive decisions. Laurie was right by our side through it all with phone calls, decisions at the hospital with the midwives, and then hands on as labor developed. She brought us water/snacks so we could focus on contractions, suggested positions, had hacks for using everything in the room to our advantage, and was friendly but direct with the hospital staff about things we needed. The feeling, in a vulnerable moment, of having someone by your side who's been through this hundreds of times is pure goosebumps.
Our baby's arrival was such a huge moment/memory and Laurie's preparation and presence for it is a big reason that memory is positive for us. Having that anchor as we navigate early-parenthood is a gift. Highly recommend Laurie.
Oh and her postpartum debrief + massage were exactly what we needed in the throes of Week 1. :P
