It can feel strange to have a stranger in your home during such a vulnerable time. But Aimee’s calm presence and proactive nature made the transition surprisingly easy. She took over baby care almost the minute we got home, while quietly picking up little bits of housework. Before long, she seemed to know where everything was as if it were her own house.
It’s often the small details I remember most—like filling the water tank of our bottle washer before leaving so the next run would be easier for us. In those newborn days, those little acts of care meant a lot.
Aimee is resourceful, direct, and empathetic. She shared thoughtful recommendations for first-time parents, paid attention to how I was doing postpartum, and proactively offered resources for therapists and new-mom communities. I always felt I could speak honestly with her about what worked for us and what didn’t.
About two weeks postpartum, I was hospitalized for severe hemorrhages and spent half a month in the hospital. Aimee responded immediately—helping clean up at home, then going straight to the hospital to care for our baby. She offered to stay late and even biked out at night to get us formula while our family was still in shock. I truly don’t know how we would have coped without her.
We originally hired her for 10 hours a week, thinking, newborns sleep most of the time, right? We quickly learned how wrong we were and were grateful we could increase her hours.
More than anything, Aimee is full of love. My Asian mom may have questioned whether she held the baby too much, but I’m glad our daughter received so much warmth and affection from day one.
