Tia was a godsend to our family as a postpartum doula. Bringing someone into your home overnight during such a vulnerable time has the potential to be challenging, but Tia felt like part of our family from our first conversation (and she still feels like a member of our family to this day!). She is warm, kind, and so clearly competent with babies, even ones (like ours) who may have health challenges.
After a 28 day NICU stay, we were cautious around trusting others with our daughter, especially at night, but we knew we could trust Tia and our daughter immediately took to her. Tia always gave us a full report in the morning and it was clear how much effort she puts into her time -- not just feeding and changing, but spending time with our daughter, comforting her, snuggling her, and helping her through discomfort as we navigated feeding challenges. Further, by having Tia present and focused on our newborn, we were able to spend special time with our toddler, which we know meant the world to him during a time of such transition.
We always joked that we could feel the stress melting away when Tia would arrive, but quickly realized it was no joke -- our health apps showed that on nights Tia was present with our family, our stress levels were lower, our sleep was better, and, most importantly, we felt like we woke up better parents after having some relief overnight. We cannot stress enough how much Tia impacted those early days and how grateful we are that we met her. She will always be a part of our family's story and we will always remember her for the way that she brought peace and ease into those tumultuous early days.
