I mean it sincerely that I don't understand how I would have gone through either of my births without Jess. No matter how much I prepare, there was always something that was super unexpected. With my second birth, I labored for a long time in triage while I waited for a room. They kept trying to get 20 uninterrupted minutes of baby's heart rate but the monitor kept slipping off. Without Jess I would have had to wait and wait for a nurse to come help everytime. She knows her way around the room and the equipment and takes initiative. She is also such a great advocate. Without Jess, I would have felt so confused and lonely when the attending doctor asked me if I wanted her to break my water upon only being there for 10 minutes! There was absolutely no reason for that considering I wanted things to unfold naturally. My contractions were coming stronger and close together. There was no need to rush things like that. Jess reassured me that it was indeed a ridiculous suggestion which helped me move forward with confidence. (I ended up having the baby very quickly). And I can say with both births, she was such a rock for me. Whenever a contraction was so intense that I was starting to panic, I would just lock eyes with her and she would always help me get through it with confidence and not get scared. Not to mention she takes photos for us so we can look back on the moment for years to come.
