Testimonial for Gail Block
I originally decided I wanted a doula because, as a first-time mom, I wanted someone knowledgeable and experienced by our side to help us understand our options and make informed decisions throughout birth. You never know how labor will unfold, and I wanted to take some of that mental pressure off both myself and my husband.
From the moment we met Gail and Bailey, we knew we had made the right decision. We never felt judged or pressured about any of our birth choices. They listened to what was important to me and gave us so many resources to help us feel confident and informed.
When labor came, it was a long one — 52 hours. Despite everything that ultimately happened, I will always say my labor itself was a dream, and so much of that is because of Gail. She helped keep me comfortable, calm and supported while honoring exactly what I wanted throughout the process.
The scary part came after our daughter was born. She came out blue and not breathing, and it took 1 minute and 19 seconds for her to begin breathing again. At the same time, I had a retained placenta and was rushed into emergency surgery, where life-saving measures had to be taken. I eventually woke up in the ICU intubated and confused about what had happened.
Through the most terrifying experience of our lives, Gail was there. She helped keep everything calm, explained what was happening, and supported not only me but my husband and sister when I was taken away.
We prayed together, cried together and laughed together. I will forever be grateful for Gail’s dedication, beautiful soul and calming spirit. I truly cannot imagine my labor without her.
Birth is unpredictable, and having someone like Gail beside us through both the beautiful moments and the moments we never could have prepared for was invaluable. She will forever hold such a special place in our hearts. ??
