Hiring Ory for postpartum overnight doula support was one of the best decisions we made when we had our first baby. We were expecting that she would be able to give us much needed sleep overnight, but what we weren’t expecting was expert guidance on how to care for our newborn, in all of the ways you can’t learn in a book (especially as first-time parents). She was incredibly helpful guiding Mom with breastfeeding and pumping, and when Mom’s health took a turn and we needed to go to the ER, she offered to stay home overnight with the baby so we didn’t need to bring him to the ER. Ory also had many connections and recommendations to other local experts to help with various issues when they arose (a Mohel, a pediatric dentist for his tongue-tie, an IBCLC who specializes in low supply for breastfeeding, etc) — she is so well connected and always seems to know who to reach out to for help and advice. Ory’s ability to assess our baby’s needs (and our needs as the parents) and also educate us about what to expect in the coming nights and weeks also set us up for success as our baby grew.
We looked forward to Ory’s arrival every evening, and her company during those overnight nursing and pumping sessions made those long nights feel less isolating and way more enjoyable. Postpartum hormones and newborn life can be so, so tough, but her support and guidance gave us confidence in caring for our baby, and immensely improved our mental health.
