Testimonial for Alaska McFadden

I’m forever grateful for Alaska’s support in bringing our second daughter into the world. When my water broke at 40 weeks before contractions, the anxiety set in that this was going to be just like my previous labor where contractions did not pick up after my water broke. I called Alaska right away, and she provided helpful advice and support to get labor going at home before going into the hospital the next morning. Alaska was able to advocate for me before she even arrived at the hospital by helping me tell the doctor which interventions I wanted and in what order. Once she arrived, shortly after I was admitted, she got me up and moving with the birth ball and made sure I was well hydrated and managing the pain throughout contractions. Alaska was extremely knowledgeable of which positions to labor in(and when) and communicated so well with the doctors and nurses in a way I was unable to during labor. Once things started to really pick up, and I was no longer capable of standing in laboring positions — she was the guidance I needed to hear when I knew it was time to transition to the bed. Throughout my entire labor, Alaska was able to keep me well-informed of what to expect next. When I told Alaska I felt the urge to push (despite being terrified of being checked, and it not being what I wanted to hear), I trusted her completely when she said it was time. I was shocked when the doctor said I was ready and even more shocked when my daughter came out weighing 10oz more than my oldest. After my daughter was born, Alaska stayed with me until I was completely stable, while my husband was with our daughter. I truly believe Alaska’s guidance with hospital policies, interventions, and methods to encourage the baby to get into a good position made all the difference. Even if I did not get my VBAC- I would have felt supported no matter how my baby girl arrived into the world. Having Alaska changed everything!
