Laurie is the absolute best!! She is incredibly knowledgeable, experienced, multi-talented (doula, therapist, and excellent masseuse all rolled into one!), and kind while being straightforward. On top of that, she's got a great sense of humor and a calming, reassuring presence which was very helpful in the tougher moments. She is a believer in science, research, and modern medicine, while also understanding that she's there to provide a different perspective and advocate for her clients not only from a bodily safety and security perspective but from an emotional safety one as well (which is sometimes missing in what can be an impersonal medical setting). She takes the time to understand what makes you tick and what you need to feel good about your birth experience and really tries to support you in any way she can to achieve that.
We had a challenging and difficult pregnancy and delivery in some ways, with things not really going as hoped. It was a scary experience and we couldn't imagine going through it without Laurie. We felt like we were in great hands with her the entire time and felt much better knowing we had her there as an advocate as she skillfully helped us navigate a number of stressful decisions. My husband specifically wants to call out that he felt like she was a guiding light for him as well as the support person when he didn't know what to do to help or how best to support me. She was truly there for both of us and we are eternally grateful. We'd highly recommend Laurie as a doula. Thank you Laurie!!
