We were so thankful that we chose Elizabeth as a doula for the birth of our daughter. As first-time parents, we had a lot to navigate during the preparation, birth, and postpartum days. Elizabeth helped us think through a birth plan and, thankfully, we finalized it early because our daughter arrived 10 days early and in a hurry! My husband came home from a 12-hour shift to find me in active labour, and I was not able to think clearly enough to communicate with anyone at that point. Elizabeth came over, helped me cope with labour at home, and helped us decide when it was time to go to the hospital. She was able to communicate our needs and preferences to the medical professionals when we were unable to advocate for ourselves. Her awareness of my needs as a mom during labour helped me navigate the process and have a good (if intense) experience. She stayed with us until we were settled in the postpartum unit and made sure we were good before she left. Our daughter was very small, and Elizabeth recognized we probably did not have the clothes we needed, so she showed up with a preemie sleep sack and a few preemie outfits the day after we came home from the hospital! It was amazing to have clothes that fit, and the sleep sack was a Godsend!
Elizabeth was amazing with her advice on sleep, baths, and newborn care. She sent resources when she saw our need for more information, like how many layers a newborn needs, and her advice helped us make adjustments to find rhythms that worked for us. It was a relief knowing that we could always text Elizabeth, and we would highly recommend having her on your birth team! Thanks for everything!
