Nicole was absolutely FANTASTIC. Having a doula in general was a great decision, but having Nicole as my doula was even better. I recall someone writing a review for Nicole that was something along the lines of, "Just stop looking around for other doulas and just go with Nicole." I have the same sentiment. Nicole was kind, patient, incredibly knowledgeable, accepting of how we wanted the birth process to look, and she was wonderful for not only myself and the baby, but my husband and extended family.
At the hospital, Nicole knew exactly what the nurses were doing. She knew how everything would go, step-by-step. She was the one walking me through the process, not the hospital staff. She had a wonderful way of making sure I got everything I needed while also making sure my husband knew what to do and how he could be of help. Although I had a c-section and the hospital did not allow for her to be in the operating room, Nicole made herself busy and talked with our family members in the waiting room. Then, when my baby was born and taken into the room for "golden hour" with my husband, Nicole was right there. She was great at instructing my husband what to do and educating him on what "tests" the staff was doing with our baby. Once I was in the room with them for golden hour, she help with latching/nursing. She did not leave until all was calm and settled.
Nicole never overstepped. She would intervene or provide valuable input when needed. She was always a helpful part of the entire process. As a first time mom, my expectation was that the hospital staff would have done everything that Nicole did. Not even close. Nicole humanized everything and made us feel seen and special. She will always be part of our birth story, and I'm very grateful for that.
