I truly believe finding Deanna was one of the greatest gifts God gave me during my pregnancy.
As a first-time mom, I had no idea what I wanted or needed. I interviewed several doulas and even hired someone else first, but it didn’t feel right. I asked a couple of doula educators who they would recommend, and both immediately said, “Deanna.” It felt aligned.
From the moment I met her, she brought a calm that is hard to describe. One thing that mattered so much was her voice. It may sound strange, but when you’re in the most intense pain of your life, you need someone whose voice makes you feel safe. Hers did exactly that.
Being able to text her throughout the last weeks of pregnancy was priceless. Every first time mom wonders, “Is this it?” She always knew the right questions to ask and gave me so much peace.
When labor started, she met us at the hospital at 1 a.m. & stayed through the night and into the next day. I never once felt rushed or like she wanted to leave. I felt completely cared for.
My goal was an unmedicated birth, and I know I would not have had the experience I did without her. She always seemed to know exactly what I needed different positions, the shower/ tub, movement, encouragement and her confidence became my confidence.
She also guided my partner, which allowed me to focus entirely on labor instead of worrying about what either of us should be doing. Her calm presence grounded us both.
If you’re wondering whether hiring a doula is worth it, it absolutely is. You’re investing in someone who knows birth, knows how to support you, and helps make one of the biggest days of your life feel safe and empowering.
My birth is one of the most magical memories of my life because Deanna was part of it. I will forever be grateful, and if I’m blessed with another baby, there is no question she’ll be by my side again.
