We could not have asked for a better doula. Gina supported us through a traumatic birth experience at 32 weeks with complete professionalism, kindness, honesty, and steadiness. She brought snacks, helped us think through and understand complex medical situations, and even fixed the squeaky door in our labor and delivery room with the WD90 in her magical box of doula things! She made not only me (mom!) feel more grounded during a terrifying time, but was such an invaluable source of support for my husband as well as we navigated such a fast changing and scary time. She helped make it possible for him to show up so fully for me in the exact way I needed.
One thing that will always stick out to me was how she advocated for us to get to see our baby who was taken to NICU directly after birth. The hospital didn’t want us to see him until 12 hours after (I had not seen or heard him during the emergency c section) and she made sure we got to see him much sooner. That was an incredible gift and all possible because of Gina.
Gina was there for us every step of the way, not only before and during birth but she checked in after we went home and throughout the many weeks of our son's NICU stay. We met with her to talk through the birth experience and that was unbelievably helpful - to process that with someone who was there, who was able to look at me and tell me that I am a mom and I did give birth when I felt neither to be true. I felt like she truly saw me and my husband and then met us exactly where we needed and said exactly what we needed to hear throughout this entire process.
If we have another baby, we will absolutely want Gina to be there with us.
