Testimonial for Mel Haley (they/them)
Mel was my doula for the birth of my son. Mel helped my wife and I plan for the birth of our child and my post partum period. They helped us understand the many many decisions that we didn't know were part of childbirth. During the birth, Mel not only supported me, but also ensured that my wife stayed hydrated, ate and took breaks to go outside (it was a long birth). Mel helped me get comfortable to take short naps while I was in labor and worked tirelessly to get me in the best positions to help my baby move down the birth canal. They also strongly advocated for my baby to be placed on my chest before being taken to the nicu. That's when he let out his first cry and really turned a corner. My wife and I were in such a daze and wouldn't have known to ask for this, but I know our baby spent less time in the NICU and had less interventions than he otherwise would have because of Mel's advocacy.
Mel is a delight to be around. My wife and I looked forward to each of our visits with them because we genuinly enjoyed spending time with Mel.
