Words can not describe the support Sarah provided us. From the start her knowledge and friendship put us at ease with the challenges that lay ahead of us. We really wanted to approach labour as a team - Sarah quickly bought in and was a positive, calm, and grounded addition.
During our initial home visits, Sarah was an excellent source of information, providing us with further context and understanding of what labour would or could be like. Her years of first hand experience pulled back the curtain and gave us an informed picture of what lay ahead. This kind of informal support and information was invaluable in easing worries and increasing our confidence in labour, birth, and postpartum.
We ended up going through an exceptionally long and challenging labour that unfortunately did not follow our ideal birth plan that we created with Sarah. She was there with us through it all though, our advocate and friend when we needed it most. She shared in our frustrated laughs and our sobs in difficult moments but always kept us focused on what we needed to do. She was also an amazing advocate for us when things were moving quickly and it felt like we weren’t in control anymore. Even during the early postpartum days, Sarah was available and able to work with us to help in setting up our home to support us as new parents. Whether it was a nutritious breakfast or washing bottle and pump parts, Sarah was a capable and consistent presence that we could count on.
In the end we got our beautiful son and we can't imagine how much more difficult it would have been without Sarah there to guide us. She is an excellent Doula and a better person.
