We contacted Sara-Rene during my third trimester. Throughout my pregnancy, I was considering a TOLAC but had many concerns about uterine rupture. This labor was just 20 months after my C-section with my first baby, who was breech. My recovery from that C-section was really hard on me. I’m a very active person and even a year postpartum, I was still having pain at my incision. After many conversations with my husband we decided to pursue a VBAC.
After speaking with three doulas, I knew Sara was the right fit within minutes of our first phone call.
Our labor was anything but easy. 24 hours in the hospital, 26 hours after my water broke. We dealt with hours of fetal heart decelerations, severe pain, and ultimately a placental abruption that required a vacuum-assisted delivery. Throughout it all, Sara was an incredible advocate. She helped us understand every intervention, suggested different positions to help move the baby, and kept us informed every step of the way.
What I appreciated most was her honesty. She believed in my ability to have a VBAC, but she didn't sugarcoated the situation. She reassured us while also being realistic about where we were in labor and what might happen next.
Her background as an L&D nurse, combined with her experience as a mom who has had successful VBACs and home births, makes her an incredible resource. She understands the medical side of birth while also providing compassionate, unwavering support. She speaks “nurse,” but she also speaks “mom.”
I truly believe we would have ended up in the operating room the night before if it weren’t for her guidance, encouragement, and advocacy.
I got my VBAC, and I wear it proudly. If you’re looking for an evidence-based doula with a huge heart, Sara is worth every penny. I couldn’t recommend her more highly.
