I always knew I wanted to work with a doula for my first birthing experience and when I met Brighid, I instantly knew she would be the doula for me. She has the most cool, confident, and calming demeanor - at our first home visit it felt like we had been friends for years. I learned so much from our sessions leading up to my daughter's birthdate. I spontaneously went into labor at home in the middle of the night (I was 37+2 and ironically we were scheduled to discuss my birth plan the day my baby was born). Fortunately I was able to trust myself, know when to go to the hospital to get evaluated, and to our surprise I was 680-1 and in active labor when I arrived. Brighid rushed to the hospital and let me know it was an excellent time to get the epidural if I wanted it. I was in shock at my pain tolerance and managing to get this far! The nurses applauded me for making it this far and arriving in active labor.
Brighid was there every step of the way. Fanning me, feeding me ice chips, calming my husband when he needed it. After 3 hours of pushing she encouraged me to touch my baby's head when she was crowning which brought me to the happiest tears and gave me the strength and rush of oxytocin to get to the final pushes. When my daughter arrived, she had to go to NICU for respiratory distress, but Brighid was able to keep my husband and I informed and calm which was the exact support and advocacy I had hoped for. Brighid kept in great touch while I was in postpartum care and my baby graduated from NICU the next day!
I often reflect on how positive my experience was. I had my dream birth! Before having sessions with Brighid, it was something I had always feared. But she made me feel so safe, confident, and flexible to roll with the punches. Don't hesitate to choose Brighid as your doula so she can make your birth dreams come true <3
