Shelia was our doula for the birth of our son, and I don't know how we would have made it through without her.
What started as a few early contractions became a 74-hour labor, and through every single hour of it, Shelia was right there with us (always steady, wise, and endlessly generous with her time). She guided us by text and phone through the long early stretch, came to our home when we needed her calm and her hands, and stayed by our side through every trip to the hospital and every hard decision along the way.
When my wife was exhausted, and the birth we'd imagined kept changing, Shelia never once let us feel rushed or alone. Her wisdom and her presence are the reason a frightening, marathon labor ended the way every parent prays it will — with a healthy mama and a healthy, perfect baby boy. Shelia is one of the kindest, most giving people we have ever known. We now consider her an extended member of our growing family.
