Hire Brighid. Seriously. Stop interviewing. Brighid was my doula for the birth of my second daughter, and my only complaint is that I didn’t know about her when I had my first! I was hoping for a VBAC at a birth center, and Brighid was the first doula I interviewed. Within minutes, I felt like I had known her for years. I immediately wanted to cancel every other interview, but in the name of due diligence, and pretending I am a responsible adult, I went through with them. No one came close
Her knowledge and professionalism provide an incredible foundation, but what truly makes Brighid exceptional is her empathy and almost supernatural ability to understand what you need, often before you do. She is kind, caring, strong, intuitive, and somehow perfectly understood both me and my very specific sense of humor
I am almost too laid-back for my own good, but when I began feeling anxious and pressured about achieving a VBAC, Brighid knew exactly when to reassure me, ground me, and gently help me work through it. When my birth center plans changed and I needed to go to the hospital, she made every part of labor feel encouraging, safe, and— dare I say— even fun. Ultimately, I had a second emergency C-section. It was not the birth I had planned, but Brighid helped me feel supported, cared for, and never alone. She made an unexpected and intense situation feel meaningful and beautiful. She even won over my husband, who (lovingly) is the biggest hater I have ever met
There are very few people you meet who leave a permanent imprint on your heart. Brighid is one of them. I am genuinely sad this was my last baby because I won’t get to have her beside me through another birth. But I am endlessly grateful I found her and that she was part of such an important moment in my life
Brighid is not only an extraordinary doula; she is an extraordinary human. She is truly the best. And again: hire her!
