As a first time mom who was determined to have a home birth, finding a doula was very important to me. From the first email conversation with Rebecca I knew she was the doula for me, but meeting her in person just solidified it. It’s rare to find someone that you feel like you truly know just in the first few minutes; but that’s how I felt with Rebecca. She has such a genuine soul and a true gift of just knowing a person. My husband is not quick to take to people but he took to her right away. Rebecca was our rock through my entire pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. The resources and knowledge she provided helped us both feel prepared for labor knowing she would be supporting us the entire way. The moment Rebecca showed up during my labor I felt an instant calming; she was the grounding presence we both needed in that moment. I can remember moments during our home birth where I would look into Rebecca’s eyes or listen to her voice to re-ground myself. She always knew when to be present, and when to give my husband and I space. After a beautiful home birth, Rebecca followed up with us, bringing some of the most beautiful gifts I’d ever seen. The care she took with my placenta, which was very special to me, meant everything. Rebecca always seemed to reach out just when I needed it most during postpartum; offering encouragement and advice. Not only is she an extremely talented doula, but the photos she took of our birth are something we will treasure forever. Her photos have helped ground me during hard times postpartum. They have also helped me piece together my birth story. I remember telling her “I have no idea how you got these photos; I felt like you were beside me the entire time”. Because she truly was beside us the entire time; before, during and after. Rebecca will be a special part of our, and our son’s, lives forever.
