For my first pregnancy, my husband and I were looking for a doula who was 1) supportive and experienced with both natural and hospital births and 2) experienced in navigating induction with as little intervention as possible. As soon as we talked with Melissa, we knew we wanted to work with her. She has plenty of experience with local hospitals and their protocols and was very supportive of my intention to have a low-intervention birth, but also had no judgment about potential pain management with an epidural, etc. She also provided great education on how to prepare for birth. I did her Body Ready Method workouts nearly every day during my third trimester, and I believe they really helped me during labor and postpartum. My recovery was very smooth, and I think those workouts helped a lot!
Also, during my nearly 30 hours of labor, Melissa was amazing! She truly worked as part of the team with me, my husband, the doctors, and the nurses to help us make decisions and support me through labor. My labor wasn't easy. I was on Pitocin for over 24 hours, and the baby didn't want to descend. Melissa helped me throughout those long, exhausting hours by using different techniques to help the baby move and my labor progress. In the end, we realized the baby wasn't going to come down for some reason, and I had to have a C-section. While that was not the ending we wanted, Melissa prepared us for all the possible outcomes beforehand, so it wasn't too bad at all.
I have told my husband and Melissa that while labor was difficult and the outcome was not what we expected, the birth experience was actually wonderful. I truly felt like my doctors and nurses respected me and my decisions throughout the process, and Melissa and my husband were there as a team to help make every decision for the best possible outcome.
If you are looking for a doula who is experienced, caring, and there for you before, during, and after your labor, I highly recommend Melissa!
