Everyone always looks like an expert after they have a child, but what about before you have a child? What about all the questions people never think to ask? Don't we just go to the hospital, deliver the baby, and come home? Isn't that when the questions start?
That's what I thought before Cristal and I met Shawna. I thought it was just go with the flow. I thought, "Yeah, the hospital will be easy." As a guy, easy for me to say, right? Well, I was wrong.
Shawna is gifted with the ability to give peace of mind through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. I'm not sure how we would have made it without her. She is unbelievably thorough.
When Cristal was in labor, it was honestly hard for me to watch. She was in so much pain. I wasn't even sure if I could stay in the room. Shawna was there to comfort Cristal, but she wasn't there just for her. She showed me how to comfort my wife during her contractions and encouraged me as the dad.
Then something changed. I found the courage to comfort my wife, hold her legs while she pushed, and be fully present in one of the most important moments of our lives. It was a beautiful moment I'll remember for the rest of my life—a moment I may have missed without Shawna there.
Before meeting Shawna, I didn't know what a birth plan was. I didn't know how to comfort my wife. I definitely had zero clue how much readiness and advocacy we'd need to navigate the busy hospital scene.
Shawna brings peace of mind to all the unknowns while protecting and prioritizing both mom and baby. Most importantly, she supports you however you need to be supported, without judgment.
We are so blessed to have had Shawna as our doula.
Sincerely,
The Moyers
