I am an older first time mom. My husband and I are generally nervous people and we were particularly nervous about having this baby alone. We don’t have any family in the state and only a handful of friends since we are recent transplants to Minnesota so we knew getting a doula would be important. When we started looking for a doula, I wanted someone who was warm, inclusive, skilled, kind, knowledgeable (someone who below bed in science) and compassionate. Rhonda checked all those boxes. We were lucky that we didn’t have to interview anyone else. When we spoke to her over zoom for our first meeting, I appreciated her no-nonsense attitude and matter of fact way of reframing everything. That is just her vibe. I always feel better after taking to Rhonda. She is always so calm and collected. Throughout my pregnancy, she checked in with me and sent me reminders. We ended up giving birth sooner and faster than anyone could have anticipated but Rhonda was able to make it to my delivery at a pivotal point and supported me in a way I know would have not been supported had she not been there. Even though a lot of things did not go as planned and I didn’t get the delivery I hoped for, I am so grateful that Rhonda was there. I’ll never forget that she was willing to deliver donor milk to me the night we discharged from the hospital because my milk had not come in yet. Words cannot express how grateful I am that she did this…She also followed up with me to help me process the delivery and helped me feel less traumatized by what happened and what didn’t happen. I wish every baby had someone like Rhonda to help welcome them into the world. I always knew doulas were an amazing resource, but it wasn't until I gave birth that I understood how truly impactful they are to someone's journey into parenthood. Thank you, Rhonda!
