Overall
My wife and I chose to have Glo as a birth doula and post-partum daytime services for the birth of our first son. My wife wanted a birth doula and I supported her decision, but little did I know that a doula would also be great for me as a dad.
She does NOT judge you for your choices and I can say that I could not have done this without Glo. I am forever grateful for her.
Pre-Birth Sessions
Glo takes the time to get to know you before you officially book with her to truly ensure it’s a good match. Each session made us feel more comfortable with the idea of birth and confident going into it. We talked through everything ranging from diaper changing to the emotions surrounding the birth process. Something that was useful for me was that we found a way of even incorporating how to check in on dad with a basic sort of decision tree.
You can ask any question and she’ll either answer them or find out the answer from reputable sources. Having Glo as the one stop shop for our questions is great in a world where there are so many opinions online.
Actual Birth
We had a tougher birth and at one point after a scare I was not ok. She encouraged me to go on a walk with her and I let out a solid cry before going back to L&D. She supported us emotionally, helped with so many different positions, and supported us with changes to our birth preferences that we’d already discussed.
Post-Partum
I (dad) was the one who wanted to have her come for day time sessions after our second pre-birth session with her. It gave us peace knowing “we only have to survive two days before Glo comes”. I recommend to any first time parents you use her as someone to help you answer your questions of what’s normal, help you with practical things (helping us with his first bath), and her knowledge of baby things (like a specific swaddle for our escape artist).
