I am so happy that I was able to have Joyce as a doula. I was hoping for an unmedicated delivery, and given that I am an older first-time mother, I knew that I would get pressure from the doctors for inductions/interventions. I was hoping to find a doula to help me navigate this, advocate for me, and explain what was going on, while still working well with the doctors in the hospital. Joyce did all this and more.
She was always available for questions before delivery and offered so much helpful information to help me prepare. I had to go to the hospital unexpectedly after one of my prenatal visits for an extended NST, and she stayed with me and my husband the entire time until I was discharged. I was induced at 40 weeks, and Joyce helped set me up at the hospital and explained what to expect. In the end, I needed to have a c-section. It wasn't the outcome I was hoping for, but having Joyce there explaining what was going to happen and supporting me made all the difference. She also helped me latch the baby during recovery.
I know my entire experience was better and I remember it more positively because I had Joyce.
