Testimonial for Rachel Koszka (she/they)
I was very thankful for Rachel's presence during my third trimester, birth, and postpartum. She offered a grounding and supportive presence throughout the process and was a helpful resource and advocate in the birthing suite. Although circumstances presented some logistical challenges- another client of hers went into labor hours before my induction- she handled it with grace and made sure we were not entirely alone. She connected us with her back-up doula, although we didn’t end up needing to call her in. She checked in with us through the first night and after the other birth, came to us as soon as she could and was with us overnight while I labored. She was a strong advocate for my experience and feelings when challenges arose with my care team as well. The images she captured during my daughter’s birth are incredible, and I will cherish them always.
We were lucky to have a lot of family support during the early days of postpartum, and one of our postpartum visits with Rachel wasn’t needed then, so she came about six months later to facilitate a ritual honoring that milestone and gave us the gift of more meaningful pictures marking how much we had changed and grown.
It took me years to get around to writing this testimonial (my daughter recently turned 3), and Rachel’s care through those tender early months of parenthood is still felt.
