As a first-time mom planning a home birth, I was anxious about the unknowns of labor, but Barbie completely made the entire experience feel safe, empowered, and exactly what I hoped for.
When labor got intense, she had an endless toolkit of ideas. She suggested so many different positions to help me manage the discomfort, and she knew exactly how to physically reposition me to help move the baby down effectively. She anticipated my needs before I even knew I had them, constantly keeping me hydrated and quietly taking care of the little things so I could stay focused. One of the best parts of working with her was how she coached my husband. Instead of taking his place, she gently guided him on exactly how to support and comfort me.
The support didn't stop after birth. When she came back to our home for our first postpartum visit, I cried just seeing her. It was such a special, emotional moment. She sat with us and helped us process the entire birth experience. Having that continuity of care and someone to reflect on the journey with was incredibly meaningful. She took so many photos and kept a timeline of the birth night that I enjoy looking back on, it’s so special to have as that night was a bit of a blur!
