I was fortunate enough to have Raquel support me during the birth of my son and for three weeks postpartum. She showed such knowledge, care, professionalism and warmth to us during this time and both took care of me and taught my husband and I how to take care of our new baby.
During the birth, she was with me from 4am when I checked in to the hospital until late in the evening when I was recovering in my postpartum suite. She held my hand and applied counter pressure techniques that really helped me manage the pain of my contractions until I was 7cm dilated. Then she was my rock when they gave me the epidural. Throughout the day, she helped the nurses get me in different positions to encourage the baby to come out. When the doctors told me I needed a c section, she was there to consult and provided very valuable advice and guidance as we made our decision. It is because of her that we felt as good about our birth journey as we did.
Afterwards, she gave us the gift of sleep by providing overnight care for our baby for three weeks. Each night she would help get Luke on a reliable sleep rhythm, take care of all the baby laundry and bottles, and gave us detailed break downs of any issues or findings she noticed in the morning. She also made sure that I was well cared for as well. When I mentioned that I had issues pumping colostrum, she was so generous and got me a hand pump and colostrum collector kit. She also taught us how to bathe our son, how to take care of his circumcision, and helped us pack a diaper bag that was prepared for every scenario. She was also extremely flexible when we needed extra hours or to adjust our schedule.
Raquel gave us the necessary support during this time to focus on bonding and enjoying time with our new baby. I would recommend her to all of my friends and would love to have her support again in the future.
