I gave birth in 2022. My decision to hire a doula was multifactorial. I was a nervous first time mom. I was also worried about how I would fare with the sleep deprivation that is associated with caring for a newborn. Lastly, my family was unable to help so I wanted another woman to support me.
I tend to go down the rabbit hole with research. I considered different agencies and I interviewed several doulas. After talking to Erin and calling her references, I felt comfortable inviting her into my home.
Erin was our night doula while I was transitioning back to work. My baby had feeding issues and the extended breastfeeding times were seriously impacting my sleep. Erin prepared everything I needed for feedings, offered helpful advice, rocked my baby back to sleep, comforted her if she woke up, and repeated everything throughout the night.
Erin is more than an extra set of hands. Her calm, quiet energy is very soothing. She bounced with my little one on a yoga ball and my baby immediately snuggled. It was such a relief to know I could finally sleep and be rested for work the next day. She gently offered tidbits of advice and it was so pleasant to have someone to chat with during late night feedings. I will definitely reach out to her if I have a 2nd baby.
