Kate coming into my life was nothing short of a miracle! I had left the pediatrician's office feeling deflated - I was told that I needed to pump EVERY SINGLE FEEDING while breastfeeding my 5-day-old son because my breasts were engorged. I went home, frantically trying to learn my pumps and quickly spiraled into crying and being so overwhelmed. I thought to myself, "Who can help me with this situation?" I remembered my mom had given me Kate's contact info, which she received from a friend of her's who lives in their neighborhood. I scrolled through my phone and found Kate's info. After contacting her and crying while on the phone, she literally was at my house within ONE HOUR!!!!!! She sat on my couch and explained it was simply engorged and my mature breastmilk was coming in - I didnt need to pump AT ALL! I just needed ice and ibuprofen. AND IT WORKED!!! She also took the time to explain my changing body to me, helped feed me, and do a weighted feeding. As she remained there for close to a few hours, a sense of relief came over me. By the next morning, I felt way better. I signed up for her texting program and it was one of the best decisions I made. Almost everyday I texted her with at least a couple questions as well as my thoughts/feelings, and she always took time to write thorough, educated, and thoughtful messages. I learned sooooo much from her and became a more confident mom who learned to trust my instincts. Being a doula is her calling and I was blessed to have her in my orbit and part of my motherhood journey. If I am blessed to have another child, I will be certainly hiring her to come into our home on a regular basis!!!
