My fiancée' Shannon and I will never go through birth without Renee by our side. As a man with my first child on the way I had no clue what to expect - I had no idea what the stages of giving birth were going to be like, or what I needed to be prepared for as it related to the hospital experience. Renee provided a tremendous amount of information on both subjects and made sure that my fiancée' and I were 100% prepared mentally and physically from start to finish.
Renee i really took the time to understand the vision Shannon had in mind - the birth experience that she wanted to have. Renee constantly empowered Shannon and helped us navigate everything that crossed our path; always asking the right questions and giving the right perspective to make sure we were always aligned with our vision. Renee never passed any judgement and we made decisions that felt right for us throughout the entire experience.
It was priceless having Renee there to coach and support Shannon through the process in a way that I as a man with zero experience with child labor could never have done. Shannon gave birth with no medication no epidural as per her wishes and having Renee by her side to help her to the finish line was really helpful. Birth is a woman's space and in my opinion every woman giving birth deserves to have another woman there by her side who understands fully what she is going through. Now with that said, a woman having her man by her side is also crucial - and Renee prepared me mentally and intellectually so that I can be of utmost service to Shannon through her pregnancy and labor. From breathing exercises that I can remind Shannon to do, to different pressure points and exercises to help relieve some pain during labor and just being there as a support and guide through the hospital experience to make sure we stood strong in our vision was truly invaluable and were forever grateful to Renee for being by our side.
