As healthcare professionals, my husband and I entered parenthood with a significant amount of knowledge. I am a former high-risk labor and delivery nurse, high-risk antepartum and postpartum nurse, and now a lactation consultant. Despite that background, we quickly learned that knowledge alone does not replace support—and that is where Emily became invaluable. What sets Emily apart is her ability to care for the whole family. She recognized that supporting our daughter meant supporting us, our home, and even our dogs. She became an essential part of our support system after our out-of-state family left and my husband returned to work two weeks postpartum. Every morning, Emily brought a sense of calm into our home. Food is our love language, and she often prepared a simple but delicious meal for us. During a season when caring for ourselves felt difficult, those meals were such a gift. Most importantly, Emily poured her attention into our daughter, Tessa. She helped us navigate developmental milestones, troubleshoot bottle refusal, and reassured us through the worries of first-time parenthood. Even with our backgrounds, we benefited greatly from her knowledge and perspective. Emily also gave us confidence. Because of the trust we had in her, I was able to enjoy my first outing without our baby while my best friend was visiting. My husband and I were even able to go out for brunch together, knowing Tessa was in loving and capable hands. And somehow, she also found time to spoil our two dogs. When our hours ended, we were genuinely sad to say goodbye. Emily became part of our village. She helped us create a Care.com profile and continues to encourage us from afar. We feel incredibly fortunate to have had Emily by our side. She provided support, guidance, nourishment, and encouragement exactly when we needed it most. We are better parents because of her. Emily truly mothers the mother, and for that, we will always be grateful.
