Susannah was a welcome and meaningful addition to my pregnancy and birth experience. I did not go into pregnancy initially thinking I would work with a doula, but I was open to it after reading about the positive impacts doulas can have on birth satisfaction and safety. Then, when a friend worked with Susannah and recommended her, I reached out.
From the initial introductory call, I could tell that Susannah would be a great addition to my birth team. She takes an informed, educated, and scientific approach that is well balanced with thoughtful objectivity and discernment. Birth and delivery frankly scared me, and Susannah helped me feel more confident and in control of what my experience could be.
Susannah checked in with us regularly throughout my pregnancy, offering words of encouragement and helpful advice. When we had a small scare toward the end of my pregnancy, Susannah helped talk us through the experience and our options. Her support during that time really gave my husband and me the confidence to better advocate for ourselves and ultimately push for the birth we desired.
During my birth, Susannah was calm and measured. She continued to remind hospital staff of my birth preferences when things veered off course and made sure I had everything I needed in the room to make labor more comfortable. Susannah was there for me at every step of my labor, including when I pushed for over four hours. Her support, advocacy, and encouragement never wavered, even when we were all exhausted.
Both my husband and I have taken so much away from our experience, and much of what we learned will stay with us for years to come.
